Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic morning outdoors as they helped plant 16 fruit trees in a field kindly made available by Aoife's family. This exciting project gave the children the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to their local environment while learning about the importance of trees and biodiversity.

The class was joined by Shaun from YORGreenCIC and Dan, who shared their knowledge and guided the children through every step of the planting process. They demonstrated how to dig the planting holes, prepare each young tree for planting and position it correctly before securing it with sturdy stakes to help it grow strong and healthy.

The children worked enthusiastically as a team, taking great care with each tree and showing excellent cooperation throughout the activity. It was a wonderful hands-on experience that helped them understand how planting trees benefits both wildlife and future generations.

As an added bonus, the walk to and from the field gave the class the chance to see some rare breed sheep, which proved to be a real highlight of the day and sparked lots of interesting conversations.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and we look forward to watching the orchard flourish over the coming years. It will be a lasting reminder of the children's hard work and a valuable addition to our local community.
