Parliament Week

Year Six enjoyed a special visit from local MP Sir Julian Smith as part of this year’s UK Parliament Week celebrations. In preparation for the event, Year 6 pupils had been learning about how the UK government works and even held their own debate on whether social media should be banned for under-16s.

During the visit, children put their research into practice by posing a series of thoughtful questions to Sir Julian, gaining valuable insights into parliamentary life and the responsibilities of an MP. The session built on work the class had completed following their visit to the Houses of Parliament in September.

These activities link closely to our work on British Values, and it was wonderful to see how enthusiastic the pupils were. They asked excellent questions and really engaged with the opportunity.
