Governing Board update: early March 2025
The spring term Curriculum Committee meeting took place 5 February 2025, in school - the Clerk attended remotely. The meeting was chaired by Jane Hall, Foundation Governor.
Governors approved the minutes of the October 2024 curriculum meeting and reviewed agreed action points - the minutes can be seen on the school website.
Governors then heard a curriculum presentation from Ms Akrigg on PSHE.
Ms Akrigg first outlined the evolving approach to the teaching of Foundation Subjects and mixed year groups, following the November 2023 Ofsted inspection, and discussed the six-week and 12-week ‘Knowledge Check’ process, before describing the PSHE programme and the linked booster sessions in the context of the Kildwick ‘whole school’ approach to PSHE.
Governors were able to ask Miss Akrigg questions.
Governors also heard from Mrs Swales on her recent meeting with Julian Smith MP where she discussed social and emotional learning and the support, and available resourcing, for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Governors then heard an update from Mr Whitehead on the strength and range of extracurricular activities offered by the school, and the encouragement provided for children to join weekend and holiday activities outside of school.
Governors were keen to explore the connection between extracurricular activities and the Before and After School Club - Mr Whitehead noted that the arrangements in school are in line with Government funded childcare guidance.
Governors then heard a SEND update from Ms Akrigg.
Governors were able to ask Ms Akrigg questions and were particularly interested in herwork with local nurseries to help ensure that providers were able to begin conversations with parents around SEND at an early stage, and help with school preparedness.
Governors then looked at governor curriculum and SEND monitoring visits - governors are keen to see ‘pupil voice’ included in future governor meetings as part of the ‘monitoring focus’.
The next governors meeting is the finance and resource committee meeting 11 March 2025, in school.
