Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school, I hope you have all had a lovely summer and that the children are looking forward to the busy year ahead. A big welcome to all of our new children who have settled in really well to their new routines. We would like to continue encouraging the children to say their ‘Goodbye’s’ at the door and come in independently to the classroom, obviously we will deal with any ‘wobbles’ if and when they arise to help your child settle as quickly as possible.

On the 16Th September at 3.45pm our Year 1 parents are invited to come and ‘meet the teacher’ in the classroom followed by an ‘Introduction to Phonics’ at 4.15pm evening for our new Reception parents held in the hall. This is an opportunity for our Reception parents to come along and hear about how we teach phonics and to give you a clear understanding of reading and homework tasks. It will give you the opportunity to see the ways that we can work together to encourage your child to enjoy their learning this year. I look forward to seeing you all and to give you the chance to ask any questions you may have.

Reading Books – New reading books will be issued to Year 1 children this week and to Reception in the next few weeks. There will be opportunity for your child to change their book on Mondays and Thursdays, we ask that you write in the reading record so we know that the book has been read and needs changing. As always, we encourage short, frequent reading sessions at home with lots of talking about what is being read.

PE – PE will be on a Friday this term.  Please ensure that we have a labelled PE kit in school at all times. Please label ALL items of uniform.

Staffing – I will be supported by the lovely Mrs Stoney who will be teaching with Mrs Harman on a Wednesday afternoon while I am on my PPA time.

Snacks – Children will continue to have access to school snacks in a morning. They can bring in their own fruit for snack if they would like to. A reminder that snack should just be fruit. We are a nut free school (we have children in school with nut allergies). Please do not allow children to bring anything into school containing nuts. All children should also have a named water bottle in school each day.

Homework –Homework will be given at the start of each half term with tasks to do each week. When children have completed a task they should hand in their homework book. We will be sharing homework with the class every Friday. Children will also be given spellings to learn for a small test each week.

EYFS and KS1 School Nativity – Your child’s nativity is a very important event for you, them and us! As such I wanted to give you the dates as far in advance as possible. We have booked the church for the Nativity on the

12th December. There will be an afternoon performance at 2pm and an evening performance at 6pm.

Thank you for all your support.                        Mrs Moorhouse and Mrs Stoney
