Year Six enjoyed another exciting start to the school year with their annual trip to London.
After an early morning start, the journey didn’t go quite to plan, as the train unexpectedly terminated at Stevenage due to issues on the line. However, the group quickly adapted and found an alternative route into the capital, making it to Westminster ready for the day ahead.
The first stop was the Houses of Parliament, where the children took part in a fascinating guided tour. They stepped into the House of Commons, which was unusually quiet as no debates were taking place, and also had the chance to sit in the viewing gallery of the House of Lords. A real highlight was spotting former Prime Minister Theresa May taking part in a debate. The tour was full of intriguing historical facts, including the story of Guy Fawkes and the exact spot where he was discovered hiding with 36 barrels of gunpowder.
After the tour, the class enjoyed their picnic outside the Houses of Parliament before walking across Westminster Bridge—dodging heavy downpours of rain along the way. Luckily, the weather cleared just in time for their ride on the London Eye, giving them great views of the city.
The day continued with a long but interesting walk back towards King’s Cross. Along the way, the group passed through Covent Garden, where they paused to enjoy a street magician’s performance. To the children’s amazement, one of the Year Six pupils was chosen to take part—and even appeared to levitate!
Finally, with some souvenir shopping squeezed in, the class headed back to King’s Cross, tired but full of memories from an unforgettable day in London.
