Class 3 - Home Learning Newsletter

Dear all Parents / Carers of Class 3 pupils,

We hope that you are all well and coping during these unusual times that we are all facing. We hope that you had an enjoyable Easter break and were able to enjoy some time together as a family.

We would like to thank you for the engagement that we have had so far with Google Classroom. It is great to see so many of the children getting involved with the activities that we have set. We love seeing the photos that they children are posting and the comments that they are leaving. It is great that they can all still interact.

We will continue to upload activities on a Monday morning for your child to complete over the course of the week. We aim to make the activities accessible for all children so that they can work independently. There will be a range of activities and we would like all children to have a go at some.

If you are still unable to access Google Classroom - please let us know via email to [email protected].

Please do continue to get in touch with us via the email if there is anything we can do to help you during these times.

Stay safe,

Mrs Sharples and Mrs Manthorp

Home Learning Timetable

The activities will be posted on Google Classroom on Monday so that you are able to prepare for the week ahead so that there is flexibility with what pupils learn and when.

We will be giving children various writing tasks - story / letter / reports - over the next few weeks and encouraging them to use their editing skills to improve their work before they hand it in.

In their writing, children can consolidate the SPAG skills that we have already used:

A new skill that children will learn online this half term is to

Reading

Children are encouraged to read as much as they can while they are at home. This can be done daily either with an adult or independently.

Reading activities will be posted on to Google Classroom so that pupils can practice their comprehension skills.

Maths

In maths we are going to follow the White Rose online learning resources. I have been using these with Tilly and they are great. They start with a spoken tutorial and then activities follow on from that. The link will be posted on Google Classroom for you to access.

Year 3 will cover the following:

  • Fractions
  • Money and multiplication and division
  • Fractions
  • Angles, shape and time
  • Mass, capacity and statistics

Year 4 will cover the following:

  • Decimals
  • Multiplication, division, perimeter and area
  • Fractions
  • Decimals
  • Money and statistics
  • Geometry and measures

Science

Science is all about Plants; what they need to grow and how they reproduce and disperse their seeds.

History

History this half term is the Romans!

We will be setting lots of activities on Google Classroom so that pupils can learn all about the Romans and their Empire.

Art / DT

In Art and DT we will be setting children a range of creative activities. Some will be related to the Romans and some will be from BBC online.

Music

We would like you to keep singing during this time! Hopefully we will be able to pop some of our songs from Collective Worship on Google Classroom so you can have a sing a long at home!

P.E.

Please continue to keep fit by taking part in daily exercise. This could be a walk, a bike ride or an online exercise class.

P.S.H.E.

We would like you pupils to use PSHCE time to concentrate on mental health and wellbeing. We will set activities around this.

ICT

Lots of computing will be taking place as we learn remotely!

Pupils may initially need some guidance from you on using Google Docs and Google Slides but as they practice more they will quickly develop their skills and confidence.

Spanish

Class 3 love Spanish so I will set a few consolidation activities and challenges to learn some new words.
