About Class One Robins

The Robins Class is a mixed Class of Reception and Year One children. The children are taught by Miss Akrigg and assisted by Teaching Assistants Mrs Stoney, Mrs Swales and Miss Taylor.

In Class One we aim to have lots of fun when we are learning. We spend time learning inside the classroom and in our outdoor learning area. We spend lots of time on the Peggy Wilson playing field (AKA the Rec!) and we love the community garden. It’s handy to have a pair of wellies and waterproof clothing in school as we sometimes get wet and muddy!

Reception children are in the final year of the Early Years Foundation Stage. This is a distinct key stage which extends from birth to 5 years old. The EYFS is organised into four equally important principles; a unique child, positive relationships, enabling environments, learning and development. The Learning and Development principle is subdivided into seven areas of learning; Personal, Social and Emotional Development; Communication & Language; Physical Development; Mathematics; Literacy; Understanding the World; Expressive Art.

The Year One curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in Reception. Learning through play will continue to be an important part of the school day, and the children will gradually be eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated, enthused and eager learners. Year One children are taught as a cohort with their peers in Class Two. They follow the same topics for RE, PE, Geography, History, Music and PSHE. The Year One children are all taught together for PE, Music, Phonics and Forest Schools. They also go on the same Educational Visits and spend lunchtimes and playtimes together.
