Governing Board update: May 2023
The Summer Term Finance and Resources meeting took place Thursday 11 May 2023, on-line.
Minutes of the 26 April 2023 full governing board meeting were approved. These will be put on the school website.
The meeting focused primarily around the budget and financial performance of the school.
The bursar attended, allowing governors to look at the budget in some detail.
Governors approved the final in-year budget monitoring report for the financial year 2022-2023.
Governors then looked at the budget for the current financial year, 2023-2024, and the three-year projection.
Discussion areas included:
- The delegated budget - government funding channelled through the local authority;
- Additional funding for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND);
- Catering costs (school meals);
- The before and after school club budget;
- Cleaning and caretaking costs;
- Energy costs;
- The planned IT replacement project.
The budget position is slightly stronger than initially anticipated, although remains extremely tight with a deficit risk for year-three - as schools should not run a deficit budget, careful budget management remains essential and difficult decisions cannot be ruled out.
Governors are to tightly monitor SEND funding, an increasingly important area of the overall school budget.
Governors nevertheless remain confident that the budget has been well managed with a focus on ensuring high quality education for all children.
Governors then discussed the March 2023 Health and Safety report - Mr Whitehead is to ensure that all recommendations are completed.
The next governing board meeting is the strategy meeting 21 June 2023 - this meeting will review progress on the school strategic plan 2022-2025.
