Governing Board update: December 2022

The autumn term full governing board meeting took place Tuesday 6 December 2022, in school.

As usual the meeting focused around the school vision: Learning to Live, Living to Love, Loving to Learn,

Minutes of the 24 November Finance and Resources meeting were approved. These will be put on the school website.

Governors discussed the December 2022 Headteachers Report with Mr Whitehead, including: the school’s self-evaluation; the curriculum; behaviour and attitude; attendance and punctuality; school accommodation; and access to extracurricular activities.

Governors remain confident that the school continues to provide a high quality education for all children and are pleased to see that attendance is excellent and again largely in line with pre-covid levels.

Mr Whitehead was thanked for the report.

Governors then looked at safeguarding - a key governance function. Governors heard a presentation on staff training and procedures from Mr Whitehead and Ms Akrigg and reviewed the termly governor safeguarding monitoring report and a NYCC autumn term monitoring report.

Governors next discussed the academisation agenda - an area the Diocese has asked Governing Boards of all church schools to reflect on, and a key part of the Government’s March 2022 Schools White Paper.

A governor’s sub-group was agreed as part of a focus to maintain a ‘watching brief’ on academisation developments locally, ensuring that the school remains in a strong position as academisation develops.

Governors then discussed parental engagement - Karen Law, Parent Governor, is to meet with Mr Whitehead to review the ‘Parent Forum’ and feedback to the governing board.

Governors then approved the Assessment, EYFS and Pay Policies.

School policy documents can be found on the school website.

The next governing board meeting is the Spring Term curriculum meeting, 7 February 2023, which it is hoped to hold in school-time to allow children to join the meeting.
