Year Six with Julian Smith

Following on from their visit to the Houses of Parliament, Year Six wrote to their local MP Julian Smith to invite him into school to answer their questions.

The children grilled the MP for Skipton and Ripon on a variety of issues from the cost of living crisis to what he thought about the current prime minister.

Year Six were interested to hear about when Julian met the Queen, what it feels like to speak in the House of Commons and what it is like to work closely with the prime minister.

Pupils Imogen and Willow said, 'He was good at answering our questions and used lots of sophisticated words. It was interesting that he wanted to be an MP since he was thirteen and he was interested in what we were reading in school. He told us how important reading is and how much the prime minister reads every day to do his job.'
